Electronic Receipts, MIT

Initial logotype mockups

Brief

MIT decided to simplify it's bookkeeping by introducing an Electronic Receipts system online. Before this, every receipt was collected by staff, photo copied and inter-office mailed to the Institute's financial center. Receipts tended to pile up, cause clutter and deliver headaches.

The system was a dinosaur and everyone knew it. Our Director asked if we could offer some comic relief. She asked if we could sum up the new system roll out with a cartoon. Not only did we do this, we took it further with some ironic hoopla.

ComicComic Like the dinosaurs, our old paperwork system went extinct. SignageSignage Going with a theme of an archeological dig, we created an installation with caution signage to note the effects and hazards of digging through piles of receipts. Their enormous size also made them look like prehistoric dinosaur receipts. The next morning, it came to my attention that the cleaning crew disposed of the pile. Talk about disturbing a historical dig site!
